God's Character of Love

In Romans He is gracious and faithful. In Psalms He is good, everlasting mercy, enduring truth, just, and righteous wrath.

Jesus and Him Crucified

In Romans, Paul says Christ sent him to "preach the gospel, not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of no effect. For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to those who are being saved it is the power of God." He also says, "we preach Christ cruicified...to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God." "Of Him you are in Christ Jesus, who became for us wisdom from God and righteousness and sanctification and redemption..." The psalmist says, "I will sing of mercy and justice; to You..." Mercy and justice met on the cross of Jesus Christ.

Verse(s) that speak to me today

1 Corinthians 1:23 "we preach Christ crucified..." Psalm 101:3 " I will set nothing wicked before my eyes..."

The Holy Spirit says to me today

Preach Jesus and Him crucified and set nothing wicked before your eyes.

August 16: Romans 15:14-33; Psalms 94-96

Today's Bible Reading: Romans 15:14-33; Psalms 94-96

God's Character of Love

In Romans He is the giver of grace and peace. In Psalms He is a Righteous Judge to whom vengence belongs, knows the thoughts of man, does not cast off or forsake His people, merciful, comforter who delights our souls, the Rock of our salvation, beautiful and holy.

Jesus and Him Crucified

In Romans, Paul says, "that I might be a minister of Jesus Christ to the Gentiles, ministering the gospel of God, that the offering of the Gentiles might be acceptable, sanctified by the Holy Spirit." The psalmist says that Jesus is "the Rock of our salvation"  and that we should "proclaim the good news of His salvation from day to day."

Verse(s) that speak to me today

Romans 15:18 "For I wll not dare to speak of any of those things which Christ has not accomplished through me, in word and deed, to make the Gentiles obedient..." Psalm 94:18-19 "If I say, "My foot slips," Your mercy, O Lord, will hold me up. In the multitude of my anxieties within me, Your comforts delight my soul." Psalm 96:2 "Proclaim the good news of His salvation from day to day."

The Holy Spirit says to me today

Speak to the people about what I have done through you in word and deed.  Do not be afraid, for by My mercy, I will hold you up, remove your anxieties, comfort and delight your soul. Preach the good news of My salvation.

August 15: Romans 15:1-13; Psalms 91-93

Today's Bible Reading: Romans 15:1-13; Psalms 91-93

God's Character of Love

Today in Romans He is selfless, patient, comforting and merciful. In Psalms He is Protector, Refuge, Deliverer, Savior, Loving and Righteous.

Jesus and Him Crucified

In Romans today Jesus "did not please Himself, but as it is written, "The reproaches of those who reproached You fell on Me." He also is the "root of Jesse" and He shall "rise to reign over the Gentiles, in Him the Gentiles shall hope." Of Jesus, the psalmist says, "With long life I will satisfy him, and show him My salvation" and "there is no unrighteousness in Him." Jesus will show us His salvation and there is no unrighteousness in Him.

Verse(s) that speak to me today

Romans 15:1 "We then who are strong ought to bear with the scrupples of the weak, and not to please ourselves." Psalms 91:14-16 "Because he hs set his love upon Me, therefore I will deliver him; I will set him on high, because he has known My name. He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him and honor him. With long life I will satisfy him, and show him My salvation."

The Holy Spirit says to me today

Do not be selfish, but bear with those who are weak. Set your love upon Me and I will deliver you. Because you have known My name, I will answer your prayers, be with you in trouble and deliver you, I will satisfy you and show you My salvation.

August 14: Romans 14; Psalms 89-90

Today's Bible Reading: Romans 14; Psalms 89-90

God's Character of Love

In Romans He is the righteous Judge and the One who recieves those who come to Him in faith. In Psalms He is merciful, faithful, mighty, the rock of our salvation, loving and beautiful.

Jesus and Him Crucified

I see the Gospel in Romans 14:9 which says, "For to this end Christ died and rose and lived again, that He might be Lord of both the dead and the living." In Psalms Jesus is the rock of my salvation and the Holy One of Israel.

Verse(s) that speak to me today

Romans 14:1 "Recieve one who is weak in the faith, but not dispute over doubtful things." Psalm 89:31-34 "If they break My statues and do not keep My commandments, then I will punish their transgression with the rod, and their iniquities with strips. Nevertheless My lovingkindness I will not utterly take from him, nor will I allow My faithfulness to fail. My covenant I will not break, nor alter the word that has gone out of My lips."

The Holy Spirit says to me today

Accept those who are weak in faith without arguement over minor things. Remember, even though I might correct you because of your sins, I will not take My love and faithfulness from you; for what I have spoke to you still stands.

August 13: Romans 13; Psalms 87-88

Today's Bible Reading: Romans 13; Psalms 87-88

God's Character of love

In Romans He is the giver of the Law of love, which is a reflection of His own character of love. Therefore He calls us to love one another. In Psalms He is the One who knows us intimately (even where we are born), He is the God of salvation, He is full of lovingkindness, He is faithful and righteous.

Jesus and Him Crucified

In Romans Paul calls us to awake out of spiritual sleep, because "our salvation is nearer than when we first believed." Salvation comes through Jesus to those who believe. In Psalms Jesus is the "...God of my salvation..."

Verse(s) that speak to me today

Romans 13:14 "But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to fulfill its lusts."

The Holy Spirit says to me today

Focus on Jesus and deepening your relationship with Him and make no provision for the flesh and its lusts.

August 12: Romans 12; Psalms 84-86

Today's Bible Reading: Romans 12; Psalms 84-86

God's Character of Love

In Romans He is merciful, gracious, the giver of spiritual gifts and the One to whom just wrath and vengence belong. In Psalms He is good, ready to forgive, abundant in mercy, full of compassion, gracious, longsuffering, abundant in mecry and truth.

Jesus and Him Crucified

Romans 12 is a great expression of what someone's life will look like after they have accepted Jesus' sacrifice. I see Jesus in Psalm 85:2, "You forgive the iniquity of Your people; You have covered all their sin."

Verse(s) that speak to me today

Romans 12:2,9 - "...do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind..." "Let love be without hypocrisy. Abhor what is evil. Cling to what is good."

Psalm 84:11 - "The Lord will give grace and glory; No good thing will He withhold from those who walk uprightly."

The Holy Spirit says to me today

Let Me renew your mind from the perverse ways of this world. I will give you grace to walk right, abhor what is evil and cling to what is good. I will not withhold any good thing from you if you walk uprightly.

August 11: Romans 11:19-36; Psalms 81-83

Today's Bible Reading: Romans 11:19-36; Psalms 81-83

God's Character of Love

God's love is seen, in Romans, in His goodness to the believing and even in His "severity" which is a result of Him giving freedom of choice to the unbelieving. He is Deliverer, merciful and full of wisdom and knowledge. In Psalms He delivers us from bondage, is a righteous Judge and satisfies our needs.

Jesus and Him Crucified

The gospel is expressed in God's desire to see Israel saved in Romans 11:26-27, "The Deliverer will come out of Zion, and He will turn away ungodliness from Jacob; for this is My covenant with them, when I take away their sins." In Psalms 81:10, "I am the Lord your God who brought you out of the land of Egypt." He takes away our sins and delivers us from bondage to sin.

Verse(s) That Speak to Me Today

"Continue in His goodness." Romans 11:22 "Oh, that My people would listen to Me, that Israel would walk in My ways." Psalm 81:13

The Holy Spirit Says to Me Today

Continue in My goodness, listen to Me and walk in My ways.

God's Character of Love

Today, in Romans, God is seen as a God of grace, but He will not force His grace on those who refuse it. In Psalms, He is full of tender mercies, God of salvation, Deliverer, Shepherd and Restorer.

Jesus and Him Crucified

In Romans, the message of salvation has gone to the Gentiles, but God is also wanting the Jews, who have largely rejected it, to accept it. Today, the Psalmist cryies out, "Help us, O God of our salvation, for the glory of Your name; and deliver us, and provide atonement for our sins, for Your name's sake!"

Verse(s) That Speak to Me Today

Psalm 79:8 - "Oh, do not remeber former iniquities against us! Let Your tender mercies come speedily to meet us..."

The Holy Spirit Says to Me Today

I have provided atonement for your sins and will remember your sins no more.

July 29: Romans 1; Psalms 49-50

Today's Bible Reading: Romans 1; Psalms 49-50

Supplimental Reading: Acts of the Apostles pgs 372 - 382

God's Character of Love

In Romans Paul says that God's "invisible attributes", His eternal power and Godhead are clearly seen through nature. This means that the attributes of God's character of love can be understood, without exposure to the special revelation of Scripture or the Gospel, through nature. Therefore He has revealed Himself to everyone, whether having access to the Bible/Gospel or not. In Psalms he is our Redeemer, Deliverer and Righteous Judge.

Jesus and Him Crucified

Paul says in Romans that Jesus was who the prophets were pointing to and that He came "with power according to the Spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead." Paul also says that he is not ashamed of the Gospel of Jesus Christ for it is the power of God to salvation to all who believe. "For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, The just shall live by faith." In Psalms, the psalmist says that "God will redeem my soul from the power of the grave, for He shall receive me."

Verse(s) that speak to me today

Romans 1:24 "Therefore God gave them up to uncleaness, in the lusts of their hearts, to dishonor their bodies among themselves..." Psalm 50 "Call upon Me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you shall glorify Me."

The Holy Spirit says to me today

Call on Me whenever you are in trouble and I will deliver you.

July 24: Acts 25; Psalms 35, 36

Today's Bible Reading: Acts 25; Psalms 35, 36

Supplimental Reading: Acts of the Apostles pgs 428-434

God's Character of Love

In Acts God revealed as Protector. God protects Paul from being delivered to death by using Festus (Roman authorites) to keep him safe from the Jewish leaders. See Acts 25:4. In Psalms God revealed as Savior, Deliverer, Vindicator, the One who takes pleasure in the prosperity of His servant, the One who is full of precious lovingkindness, Satisfier and the Fountain of life.

Jesus and Him Crucified

In Acts it is amazing to see what Paul is known for to Festus. He is know "about a certain Jesus, who had died, whom Paul affirmed to be alive." Amen! In Psalms David asks God to say to his soul, "I am your salvation." He then, in 35:9, rejoices in this same salvation. Jesus is our salvation!

Verse(s) that speak to me today

Psalms 36:7-9 "How precious is Your lovingkindness, O God! Therefore the children of men put their trust under the shadow of Your wings. They are abundantly satisfied with the fullness of Your house, and You give them from the river of Your pleasures. For with You is the fountain of life; In Your light we see light."

The Holy Spirit says to me today

Today I want you to take in the preciousness of My lovingkindness. Trust Me and be satisfied with My fullness. Bask in the river of My pleasures for I am the fountain of life.
